This spring, volunteers from Mauer Auto Group joined Let’s Plant Trees and the City of Plymouth for a community tree planting project focused on strengthening urban green space and supporting long-term forest diversity.

With supplies staged and ready to go - seedling bundles, planting bars, tree tubes, stakes, and ties - volunteers quickly formed teams and got to work. After a short demonstration on proper planting depth and tree tube installation, the team spread out across the site with native red maple, silver maple, and black cherry seedlings. Those species can handle "wet feet" so the team planted them toward the bottom of the hill. The trees were planted close together as there will be some natural thinning over time.

The event highlighted something we hear often during volunteer projects: people value nature in urban settings, and they want to play an active role in improving the spaces where they live and work. Volunteers shared stories about favorite parks, wildlife sightings, and the importance of preserving green spaces like this reforestation site for future generations.

Several participants mentioned plans to revisit the planting site in the years ahead to check on the trees, a reminder that these projects create lasting connections between people and place.

Visitors to the area may notice the tree tubes. These tubes protect seedlings during their most vulnerable years from deer browse, and reduce competition from surrounding vegetation while they establish their root systems.

Thank you to Mauer Auto Group, the City of Plymouth, and all the volunteers who made the day a success! Every planting project strengthens our urban green spaces and helps build more resilient forests for the future.
