WHAT WE'RE ABOUT ?
Let’s Plant Trees is a Minnesota nonprofit dedicated to restoring healthy, resilient forests. We provide free native tree seedlings to property owners, along with the knowledge and resources they need to plant them successfully.

Our work also includes educational presentations for schools, libraries, and community groups, as well as partnerships with communities, schools, and businesses to organize volunteer tree planting projects that make a lasting environmental impact.

The need for reforestation is urgent. With the right information and support, seedling survival rates can improve dramatically. That is why we focus on planting native species suited to Minnesota’s changing climate and share practical, timely guidance on when and where to plant.
DIVERSITY, EQUITY AND INCLUSION
At Let's Plant Trees, we are committed to a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment where everyone is valued and respected, without discrimination based on race, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, disability, religion, or any other characteristic.
HISTORY
Founded in 2023 in Lutsen, Minnesota, Let’s Plant Trees began with a simple idea: plant native tree seedlings to help mitigate climate change. That spring, Carrie and Mike Nicklow ordered 500 seedlings to plant on their own land and quickly realized that “crowdsourcing” this initiative through a wider network would have a far greater impact.

Carrie and Mike gave away all but 10 of their first seedlings with neighbors and friends, and word quickly spread among a growing network of Seedling Stewards. That experience revealed a clear need: people were eager to plant trees, but had little access to a diverse mix of climate-ready species in quantities suited for private landowners.

What began with 500 seedlings in 2023 has grown to more than 20,000 distributed in 2025. In 2026, Let’s Plant Trees projects distributing 50,000 and 100,000 planned for 2027, putting reforestation directly into the hands of Minnesotans committed to the future of the state’s forests.
