I am a Northern White Cedar tree seedling and my friends know me as Thuja occidentalis. While I am slow-growing, I am a very special tree to the Ojibwe people, and I will grow to 50-60’ tall, and I can live to about 400 years! I prefer to be near a lake or wetland and while I am shade tolerant, I do need a bit of sun to thrive. The deer will eat me so please fence me until I am 6ft tall.

Moist, well-drained soils

Partial shade, near a lake or bog
